Santa Caterina | Italian-style luxury hotel on the Amalfi Coast

Nestled on the slopes of the Amalfi Coast, you can enjoy a completely different experience from the Casa Angelina hotel by staying at the Santa Caterina hotel. This hotel, built in 1904 from a beautiful villa, takes us on a different kind of romantic journey.

One of the first things that struck us when we returned to Hotel Santa Caterina, is the use of local ceramics made in the neighboring village of Vietri sur Mare. It gives spaces a style that’s sometimes classic, sometimes romantic, very Mediterranean indeed. The second thing (and Antoine’s favorite) was the hotel’s green aspect. You’ll find outdoor relaxation areas where you can relax in a garden or park setting. Plants are everywhere, from the walls of the dining room to the terrace. Flower-filled outdoor walkways and Mediterranean gardens with olive and lemon trees and the sea in the background complete the palette. A feast for the eyes and for the senses, with the scents that can be produced by passing this way. The hotel has its own beach with a swimming pool accessible by elevator, which is a small plus as it’s on a lower level. On the other hand, it’s a shame there’s no sun from 4pm onwards, as this is the time when the sun passes behind the mountain in view of its orientation. So no late afternoon sunbathing. There’s also a fully-equipped gym and a spa to relax in.

The rooms are large and well-equipped, and you’ll find Italian romanticism in the style of the headboard and the tiles in your bathroom. For our part, we were lucky enough to test a suite with our own terrace overlooking a magnificent sea view and the hotel gardens. Yes I know, we were lucky 🙂

Breakfast is served either on your balcony, facing the sea, or as a buffet in the beautiful plant room. You’ll find a wide range of Italian pastries as well as cold meats and cheeses. You can also choose your own eggs, prepared in front of you, and finish with a fresh touch of fruit salad. A more than complete breakfast!

Amalfi , this village on the Amalfi coast (the small illuminated point in the photo below) is a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. It’s a more peaceful little town than Positano where you can dine or have a drink. We give you all the tips you need to get the most out of the amalfi coast and its hilltop villages. Once again, as we show you these places, we invite you to spend a night or two there, depending on your budget, for an experience that will bring a unique touch to your stay on one of the most beautiful coasts in the Mediterranean, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This article is my feeling and my experience. It was made possible thanks to a collaboration with the Hotel Santa Caterina, whom I would like to thank for their invitation.
