Procida is the smallest island in the Gulf of Naples, home to just 10,000 residents across barely 4 km². Visiting Procida is also visiting the island less affected by mass tourism, unlike Ischia or Capri. Some travellers come there, but the atmosphere remains peaceful, as it is more frequented by locals than foreigners, which makes the experience even more authentic. We really loved it!
Procida is also well known as a cinematic backdrop, having hosted films such as The Talented Mr. Ripley with Matt Damon, and Il Postino (The Postman) with Philippe Noiret, one more reason to fall for its timeless allure.
| HOW TO GET TO PROCIDA FROM NAPLES
After about an hour’s ferry ride from Naples (book your ferry here), you’ll arrive at Marina Grande, a picturesque fishing port with colorful houses and an authentic Mediterranean vibe.
The town center is just a short walk away, but if you’re only spending the day on the island, consider renting a vintage scooter (book your scooter here) to lose yourself in the island’s winding, hilly streets. With just 4 kilometers in length, Procida is compact and easy to explore at your own pace.
On Procida, you won’t find any large supermarkets. Instead, there are charming local trattorias and tiny shops, often a little timeworn and that’s exactly what gives the island its unique Italian authenticity we all fall in love with.

Visiting Procida is living the Dolce Vita, punctuated by the smiles of the locals. If you want to optimize your day on site, here are our suggestions:
Start your morning with a ristretto for just €1 on Piazza Martiri, at the top of Via San Rocco, near the beautiful Santa Maria Delle Grazie church.
Next, take a moment to enjoy the stunning viewpoint from Piazza Martiri, offering a breathtaking panorama over Corricella. Then, head down to Marina Corricella, a guaranteed favorite! This picturesque fishing port, impossible to miss, is a pastel-colored dream. When the sunlight hits the facades, the magic begins.
These colorful houses were once used to store boats during the winter. Today, many of them have been transformed into cozy homes, charming B&Bs, or authentic restaurants.
Take your time, settle down at a terrace and enjoy a pizza, some pasta alla puttanesca, or a seafood risotto, while watching fishermen unload their fresh catch of the day. Here, time seems to slow down, a true moment of Italian serenity.
Continue your walk through the narrow alleyways and up the stone staircases, and you’ll eventually reach the historic heart of Procida, Terra Murata.

What is the best time to visit procida ? To experience Procida in all its authenticity, the best time to visit is during spring (April to June) or autumn (September to October). At these times of the year, temperatures are more pleasant and there is less tourism than in high season. Prefer a visit during the week to avoid the crowds of Neapolitan weekends! (they often come on Sunday)
